I hope you've all had a super Easter! Ours was a busy but chilled one this year. As a family we normally holiday in the UK, we've visited some beautiful areas of the country and we were destined for sunnier climes this year when my (now not so) little cousin made plans for a Cyprus wedding! As she's a teacher it was conveniently in the school holidays though the excitement level for my boys probably made the last few days of term a write-off anyway! Not only were we going on an aeroplane, we were staying with Grandma and Grumps, Auntie Nicky and J were also coming and of course the extended family were there too!
We were staying in a villa in Peyia, slightly north of Coral Bay in the Paphos region and as far as the boys were concerned, the pool was 'awesome' and 'epic' and there was pretty much no need to leave the villa!
We did get out and explore though, popped down to Coral Bay and the boys dipped their toes in the water (and I decided the pool was much nicer - sand issues anyone?!), we also went into the Troodos Mountains, glad we did it but managed to make 3 out of the 4 of us feel car sick, gosh they're some winding roads!
My plan for the mountain road trip was to help the boys sleep during the day so they'd have the energy to party and enjoy a pre-wedding meal. Even though they didn't sleep they managed just fine! It was a fun evening with traditional Cypriot food and entertainment and it was a fabulous opportunity for every who had already arrived in Cyprus to meet before the wedding. It also gave us the chance to see my uncle take centre stage and try the 'glasses on your head' trick which I didn't think I'd ever see!
A week in to our holiday my lovely sister and her boyfriend arrived - apparently me posting photos to facebook and sending her texts hadn't helped that extra week at work! Mum and Dad looked after the boys one evening and we headed down to a gorgeous bar on the coast for cocktails at sunset. Well, I had a cocktail, the men had a beer and my sister who kindly drove had a coffee!
And then, it was time for the wedding! I wasn't their official wedding photographer and Lindsay told me that she wanted me to enjoy the day so I took some photos but my main goal was to enjoy their wedding day as I saw it and not from behind the lens, but, I had to take a few...
The wedding took place at the Cynthania Beach Hotel in Coral Bay, Paphos, the weather and vista just perfect and as it was early in the season for them, we pretty much had exclusive use! Lindsay looked absolutely stunning, the perfect bride in her Mori Lee gown and she just exuded happiness from the moment she walked down the aisle with her Dad, Adele's "Make you feel my Love" being sung beautifully by Dominic Holmes which may have had me a blubbering wreck of happy tears for them! Ryan looked pretty handsome too it must be said!
The cake had been lovingly made by my very clever Auntie and then transported to Cyprus all the way from Plymouth!
After a few group photos (and me passing my camera to the husband so I could have a picture with my sister!) and drinks it was then on to a different part of the hotel for the reception. All beautifully decorated in red and white, matched perfectly to the table plan and place settings made by my other cousin, Kelly, Lindsay's sister.
After fabulous speeches (though I'm not sure about being described as "the crazy extended family of the bride") we had a traditional Cypriot buffet then the first dance, John Legend's All of Me. A song I hadn't heard before but it came on the radio when I was out at the weekend, yep, you guessed it, leaky eyes again!
Then the rest of the holiday was pretty much reminiscing about a lovely lovely day and more family time. On our penultimate day we went off road to find a favourite restaurant of my Aunt and Uncle's, The Last Castle, definitely worth the trip if you're ever in the area but book a table, especially in the summer, it gets busy and I can see why! There is only chicken or pork on the menu but it's bbq'd to perfection and the views, once again, are stunning.
Well, that turned out to be rather more epic than I'd planned but there are another 200 or so pictures of the boys jumping into the pool which I saved you from!
So, to Lindsay and Ryan, here's to your life together as a Mr and Mrs. Thank you so much for letting us share your day (and holiday!) and I'm sure the sunshine and happiness of Cyprus will follow you both x
