So, what does your social media say about you? And most importantly, does your photography reflect the quality and nature of your work? With phones having such good cameras now, and this is only set to get better, many think that a quick snap on their phone is fine, and for some, it may well be but there's more to think about.  Is the lighting flattering? Does the image show 'you'? Does it reflect your work? and a fairly basic one but so important, is the image in focus?

I really feel that photography can and should be used to portray you and your business in a positive (flattering!) light

I've recently worked with three local business women, the sessions were short (20-30 mins, they're busy afterall) and after a chat to discuss what they were looking for in a new headshot, we got to work.  It was all very relaxed as it's important to get the best out of people and make sure that the photos reflect the person.

Here are a selection of of some images which can be used as profile pictures on social media or websites - images are provided in high resolution and low resultion to fit all uses!

Wedding Photography in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2016/10/-wedding-photography-gloucestershire We've moved and I've been taking my time in settling into new life in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire! I'm loving our new town and we're getting out and about exploring the areas in and around Cheltenham and Gloucester and heading across the border into Worcestershire to rediscover Malvern and Worcester.  We've had lovely days out in the Cotswolds and long summer evenings watching the sunset over the Malvern Hills.  But it's time to relaunch my business and move out of holiday mode!

Over the summer I photographed some beautiful weddings and decided that my clients needed something extra to the (rather lovely) USB stick that I use for my family and newborn sessions so I took some time researching new suppliers and look what I came up with...

Wedding, Photography, Digital imagesWedding Photography GloucestershireWedding packages in Tewkesbury Every wedding client will receive a bespoke wooden box with a sliding lid to reveal some very lovely things inside.

Let's take a look inside:

The personalised wooden box contains a USB stick with all of the edited images from your special day in both high resolution which are perfect for printing and low resolution which are great for uploading with ease to social medial and sharing with friends and family over email.  There is also a selection of prints which you can pop in your bag to show friends or display in frame so you don't need to wait to get your own developed (I know how busy you all are and we don't want your images just staying on the memory stick do we?!).  And because I'm good to you there's also some special hand made chocolates (not by me, from the lovely sweet shop in Tewkesbury: Sweets and Treats - to be honest, any excuse to pop in there is a well received one, a little shop with jars of joy on every wall!) which can accompany a glass of fizz or cup of tea while you relive your amazing day looking through the photos.

If you're looking for a wedding photographer, just drop me an email with some details as I'd love to chat through your plans with you and as you've got this far, I have a special offer too! To celebrate our move to the West Country, I'm offering £250 off any wedding package when booked before 31st December 2016 for weddings taking place within 40 miles of Tewkesbury in 2017 - make sure you mention this blog post.  Take a look at the different wedding packages here I'm really looking forward to hearing from you x

We've just had the best morning out at Primrose Vale PYO doing their pumpkin trail which they've set up for half term, so much so I thought I'd break my habit of not blogging to share it with you!

We got there around 10.30 and paid for the trail in the farm shop (if you have cash you can go straight to the barn at the end of the path).  It was £5 per child with grown ups going free! We were given a sheet of questions and pointed in the direction of the different fields which held the challenges and challenges they were!

Pumpkin, Children, Autumn, Holidays, Half Termhalf term fun cheltenhamPumpkin, Children, Autumn, Holidays, Half Term

The boys had to catch spiders and find a code after weaving through a spider's web - Tom described it as the Crystal Maze for Halloween - with added smoke and ultra violet lighting, I think he hit the nail on the head!

The super thing about the trail is that you don't need to follow it numerically - it wasn't too busy but it did mean that we didn't have to wait for anything as it was so flexible, I did keep number 10 (the maze in the dark) for last though to keep them posing along the way!  I loved the mummies in the fields - the boys had to use a catapult to fire tennis balls at them!

They loved the bone skittles and you can see the delight on Tom's face when he got a load down.

The tension on the terrifying toadstools was papable... such a simple idea but brilliantly executed

And after all that fun and receiving treat for completing the challenges, the boys were more than happy to take a seat amongst the pumpkins and let me take a photo.  If you have a spare couple of hours, the trail is running from now until 31st October and is open from 9-4.  There's also a cafe on site as well as a play park.  The Westwoods highly recommend it and we're now planning what to carve on our pumpkins!

~Bluebell Mini Sessions~ Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey border http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2015/3/-bluebell-mini-sessions-hampshire-berkshire-surrey-border Bluebells Portraits Family HampshireBluebell Mini Sessions

As many of you will know, I'm a bit partial to Spring and all the gorgeous colours it brings.  This year I thought I'd open up some mini session amongst the bluebells!

Bluebell Portrait sessions Hampshire

The sessions will take place towards the end of April or early May and I'll confirm the date (and a back up in case of rain) as soon as I start seeing signs that things might be happening - there's a slight variation on flowering each year!

The sessions will be half an hour long and within 2 weeks of the session you'll be emailed details of your online gallery with a password for you to view approximately 15 images.  From these you will be able to choose 5 to download and then share and print as you wish.  Of course, should you wish to purchase additional images or prints you are more than welcome to do so.

The sessions are for a maximum of 5 people due to the time contraints.  If you would like a larger family group or you feel your family would benefit from more time then it may be best to book a normal session.

The location will be confirmed nearer the time, there are some beautiful locations surrounding us so I'll visit each one before to ensure we've got the best setting.  The woodland will be within 30 minutes drive of Farnborough, Hampshire.

The number of sessions available is limited so please contact me to express your interest and I will confirm the dates with you first before announcing them on my website and facebook page.

And this is one that I took last year with the aid of the timer so I could join in!

~Jessica and Nathan's Beautiful Wedding~ Audleys Wood, Basingstoke, Hampshire http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/9/-a-beautiful-wedding-at-audleys-wood-hampshire-wedding-photography I've know Nathan for a quite a number of years now as we moved next door to his parents, at that time he was still living at home and his friends were dropping by, cleaning cars on the drive, you know, the type of thing that teenagers who love their cars do!  Then I met Jess over the fence one day - it became clear that his new friend was actually his girlfriend and the rest as they say is history!  So, you can imagine my delight when they asked me to be their wedding photographer.  It's such an honour being asked to capture a wedding and I felt so welcome with familiar faces there on the day!

The reception was held at Audleys Wood Hotel in Basingstoke which is such a stunning venue, Jess, her parents and the bridesmaids got ready there too and the room was stunning - perfect for bridal preps!  The lovely Natasha Wiggins did their hair and make-up.  I think you can see from the photos what a lovely and chilled morning we all had.

The wedding service was held at St Andrew's Church in Sherbourne St John and we nearly managed to dodge the rain clouds, they made a quick appearance just as the service finished but they weren't going to dampen the smiles!

~Wow, what a Year!~ Thank you and a Thank you! http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/7/-wow-what-a-year-thank-you-and-a-thank-you Wow, what a year it's been.  This time last year I was sat in a beer garden in Guildford saying farewell to my colleagues as I'd worked my last day in the office having been made redundant.  I'd been building up my photography anyway and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to take the plunge into self employment and I haven't looked back. I have been meaning to pop in and see the office gang but I haven't made it yet - sorry!

Here are some of the lovely people I've met over the last year and the reason I'm sat here at my computer smiling:

family and newborn photography in Guildford Fleet and Farnhamfamily and newborn photography Hampshire and Surreyfamily and newborn photography in Guildford Fleet and Farnham

I feel so lucky to be doing a job I love and I get the chance to meet so many lovely people, people who then very kindly recommend me to their friends and family too which is the biggest compliment of all.

So, as a thank you back, I'm doing my biggest giveaway to date and there's also another thank you to all of my previous clients too.

How would you like to win not only a family or newborn portrait session but also £100 credit to put towards prints or products of your choice? And after a recent poll on my facebook page I'll also include £30 of John Lewis vouchers to put towards a new outfit for the session (just don't do as I would and end up buying something for the house ;) )

To be in with a chance of winning this, in my biased opinion, fantastic prize, follow the link to the rafflecopter site.  You can earn more entries by completing different tasks so don't forget to increase your odds! Entries will remain open until the 16th August and I'll announce the winner on the 17th.

And for all of my lovely and loyal past clients, I'm offering 20% off any print orders submitted before the 17th August - drop me an email emma@emwestwood.com and I'll reactivate your gallery.

And to finish, I'm tempted to do this myself to celebrate the year!

Cake smash Hampshire and SurreyCake smash Hampshire and Surrey

Just a few formal bits! This competition is not linked or associated with Facebook or John Lewis. A The competition will run until 16th August 2014 and a post will be put on my business facebook page stating that it is closed.  All entries have to be made via the rafflecopter link above and the random selector thingiemajig is final.  The prize of a photoshoot must be taken by October 31st 2014 on a date agreeable to both the winners and myself and within a 30 mile radius of Farnborough, Hampshire.  If there are any additional costs incurred due to the location of the photoshoot, these will be paid for by the winner (for example, entrance fees or photography permit).  The winner of the competition agrees that images from the session may be used on social media websites, my website and in marketing material.  Should the winner wish to gift the prize to a family/friend, this is acceptable provided they also agree to these terms.  Any print orders made via this offer are subject to a standard £3.50 postage and package fee.

~Newborn Boy Gorgeousness~ Newborn Photography - Farnham, Surrey http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/5/-newborn-boy-gorgeousness-newborn-photography---farnham-surrey I've been meaning to put this post together and while my plans have changed this morning due to a poorly boy home from school, I thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up.

So, meet Jack:

Newborn Photography Farnham SurreyNewborn Photography Farnham Surrey

Jack is the gorgeous boy of Rachel and James.  I met Rachel through the world of twitter - now I'm trying to write it down it seems a bit elongated but it isn't really so I'll try and explain... I was following the incredibly lovely Ellie of Buttons Parties, a fabulous children's party planner/entertainer and Rachel is her friend and also on twitter so I started following her too (in a non-stalker way of course).  Ellie then started up a local group of the Clandestine Cake Club where I met her in person and Rachel was there too.  From following her on twitter I knew Rachel is incredibly talented with a sewing machine so when my sister was returning from a three year work stint to Paris, I commissioned her to make a tricolour cushion to match a Union Flag one she had been given when she relocated! Have a look at Rachel's website The Printed Tree, she really does make beautiful things!

Then, things got busy for me and I couldn't make a few cake clubs and drifted away from the world of twitter.  In December I had a call from Ellie asking if I did gift vouchers as she'd like to purchase one for a friend, it then transpired it was for Rachel! I was very excited to be seeing Rachel again and for me at least, it felt like the quickest pregnancy ever!

Anyway, back to Jack! Babies often look like their Dads, but Jack was a total miniature of his Dad who I have to say was so helpful during the session, doing a great job of soothing, changing and generally being supportive and lovely!

Jack didn't seem that keen on sleeping so we took the opportunity to get some lovely bright eyed photos, look at those gorgeous blue eyes.

Then with the help of milk and cuddles, he drifted off!

~Baby Bluebell Photoshoot~ Fleet, Hampshire http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/5/-baby-bluebell-photoshoot-fleet-hampshire I've been needing to get back on the blogging wheel and what better way to get going again than by sharing with you a beautiful session in the bluebells.

You may well remember Pippa, she's featured on my facebook page as a newborn and then again at Christmas when she was 5 months old.

Newborn Photography Farnborough HampshireNewborn Photography Farnborough Hampshire Newborn Photography Farnborough HampshireNewborn Photography Farnborough Hampshire But now the weather is warmer and Spring has sprung, we went on a little road trip to the other side of Fleet in the hunt of bluebells.  As my regular followers will know, I'm a bit of a sucker for children among flowers and Pippa didn't let me down.  With a little bit of help from her mummy (thank goodness she didn't mind standing behind me jumping up and down to keep her attention!) we got some gorgeous photos I think you'll agree too!

~Personal Post~ Our holiday in the Cyprus sunshine and my little cousin's wedding http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/4/-personal-post-our-holiday-in-the-cyprus-sunshine-and-my-little-cousins-wedding I hope you've all had a super Easter! Ours was a busy but chilled one this year. As a family we normally holiday in the UK, we've visited some beautiful areas of the country and we were destined for sunnier climes this year when my (now not so) little cousin made plans for a Cyprus wedding!  As she's a teacher it was conveniently in the school holidays though the excitement level for my boys probably made the last few days of term a write-off anyway!  Not only were we going on an aeroplane, we were staying with Grandma and Grumps, Auntie Nicky and J were also coming and of course the extended family were there too!

We were staying in a villa in Peyia, slightly north of Coral Bay in the Paphos region and as far as the boys were concerned, the pool was 'awesome' and 'epic' and there was pretty much no need to leave the villa!

Villa with pool in Cyprus We did get out and explore though, popped down to Coral Bay and the boys dipped their toes in the water (and I decided the pool was much nicer - sand issues anyone?!), we also went into the Troodos Mountains, glad we did it but managed to make 3 out of the 4 of us feel car sick, gosh they're some winding roads!

My plan for the mountain road trip was to help the boys sleep during the day so they'd have the energy to party and enjoy a pre-wedding meal.  Even though they didn't sleep they managed just fine! It was a fun evening with traditional Cypriot food and entertainment and it was a fabulous opportunity for every who had already arrived in Cyprus to meet before the wedding.  It also gave us the chance to see my uncle take centre stage and try the 'glasses on your head' trick which I didn't think I'd ever see!

A week in to our holiday my lovely sister and her boyfriend arrived - apparently me posting photos to facebook and sending her texts hadn't helped that extra week at work!  Mum and Dad looked after the boys one evening and we headed down to a gorgeous bar on the coast for cocktails at sunset.  Well, I had a cocktail, the men had a beer and my sister who kindly drove had a coffee!

Sunset at Oniros Paphos And then, it was time for the wedding!  I wasn't their official wedding photographer and Lindsay told me that she wanted me to enjoy the day so I took some photos but my main goal was to enjoy their wedding day as I saw it and not from behind the lens, but, I had to take a few...

The wedding took place at the Cynthania Beach Hotel in Coral Bay, Paphos, the weather and vista just perfect and as it was early in the season for them, we pretty much had exclusive use!  Lindsay looked absolutely stunning, the perfect bride in her Mori Lee gown and she just exuded happiness from the moment she walked down the aisle with her Dad, Adele's "Make you feel my Love" being sung beautifully by Dominic Holmes which may have had me a blubbering wreck of happy tears for them! Ryan looked pretty handsome too it must be said!

Wedding at Cynthiana Beach Hotel in Paphos The cake had been lovingly made by my very clever Auntie and then transported to Cyprus all the way from Plymouth!

2 tier wedding cake with red sugarpaste roses After a few group photos (and me passing my camera to the husband so I could have a picture with my sister!) and drinks it was then on to a different part of the hotel for the reception.  All beautifully decorated in red and white, matched perfectly to the table plan and place settings made by my other cousin, Kelly, Lindsay's sister.

After fabulous speeches (though I'm not sure about being described as "the crazy extended family of the bride") we had a traditional Cypriot buffet then the first dance, John Legend's All of Me.  A song I hadn't heard before but it came on the radio when I was out at the weekend, yep, you guessed it, leaky eyes again!

Then the rest of the holiday was pretty much reminiscing about a lovely lovely day and more family time.  On our penultimate day we went off road to find a favourite restaurant of my Aunt and Uncle's, The Last Castle, definitely worth the trip if you're ever in the area but book a table, especially in the summer, it gets busy and I can see why! There is only chicken or pork on the menu but it's bbq'd to perfection and the views, once again, are stunning.

Well, that turned out to be rather more epic than I'd planned but there are another 200 or so pictures of the boys jumping into the pool which I saved you from!

So, to Lindsay and Ryan, here's to your life together as a Mr and Mrs. Thank you so much for letting us share your day (and holiday!) and I'm sure the sunshine and happiness of Cyprus will follow you both x

~Dreamy Autumn Days~ Hampshire Family Portrait Photography http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/1/-dreamy-autumn-days-hampshire-family-portrait-photography The relentless rain and chill in the air that we've had of late makes remembering those lovely autumn days fairly tricky.  However, let me take you back...

I'd been talking to this lovely family about taking their family photos for a while (I did a little newborn session when J was born), we had spoken about the type of photographs they wanted (natural, relaxed, capturing their personalities as they are), the type of location they were after (informal, local, space to run around) and what they wanted out of the session (canvas wall art for their living room).  I was getting so excited, this is exactly the type of session I love. It's important we discuss your requirements before the session that way if I know you have a picture in mind for a certain spot in your home, we can work together to make sure you're happy!

We met in a local woodlands (to both of us, very handy - lovely to walk to work!) and took a stroll, took some pictures and had a lovely time! J is so keen on exploring, the woodland was perfect for him to have a look around with a relaxed mum and dad without worrying about leads and lighting that you may find in a studio. And A, well A, she's such a sweet girl and totally embraced the photo session! She was suggesting where she could stand and what photos I could take as well as making her little brother smile and stay where I wanted him, a perfect little assistant!

I know I've had a good day in the office when the viewing session is mainly spent narrowing down which photos are their favourite.  I used my handy app on my ipad to show them how their photographs would look on their walls - their canvases arrived in time for Christmas and I was so pleased to be able to provide them with the images they wanted and which now hang proudly in their living room.

Here is a selection from their gallery

Who knows, that would be fun for a photoshoot.  Either way, Spring will come and with it an abundance of colours and new backdrops for us to play with.  If you'd like to book a child or family portrait session or have any questions, please do get in touch, I'd love to chat to you!

~Newborn Loveliness~ Fleet and Farnham Newborn Photographer http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2014/1/-newborn-lovelyness-fleet-and-farnham-newborn-photographer Towards the end of last year I attended a second day of training with an award winning newborn photographer.  To me this is important to maintain the quality of service and products that I offer but also to ensure that I'm continually developing and ensuring the baby's safety at all time.

Below are some of the images that I took on my training day, only one model attended but it's all we needed as little Darcy was such a sweet little thing and she was a dream to work with!

Newborn photographer Hampshire To finish the day we went through a composite image, the image below is made up of three different photographs, at no point was the baby actually hanging in the hoop!

I thoroughly enjoyed my training and learnt so much, I'm so excited take these ideas forward, if you'd like to discuss a photography session with your newborn please do get in touch via the contact page

~Autumn Mini Sessions~ Just in Time for Christmas! http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2013/9/-autumn-mini-sessions-just-in-time-for-christmas Autumn words and description

What does autumn mean to you? I've been getting slightly obsessed with seasons in recent years and I'm struggling to find my favourite one. I adore Spring: so much promise, warmer days, flowers, flowers everywhere (including bluebells).  Then there's summer: lavender fields, long days, school holidays, BBQs with friends.  Winter: well, my birthday and Christmas so what's not to love. But Autumn, there's something quite magical about autumn.  I find myself day dreaming about the colours of the trees, walking with my boys and kicking up the leaves, collecting a silly amount of conkers on the way home from school with no real idea of what you're supposed to do with them and then there's the promise of winter and the excitement that it brings.

Which is why we're here at this blog post. As the days are ticking by I thought it was time to launch my mini autumn sessions. Not only does it give you a taster of what a photo session with me involves, it gives us the chance to capture the wonderful colours around us and for you to have some gorgeous photos in time for Christmas to help with those family members who are really tricky to buy for!

Conkers and leaves autumn portrait sessions Autumn mini sessions are exactly what they sound like, a mini version of a normal portrait session! You'll get the same quality experience but on a slightly smaller scale.  For a full session I aim to deliver 30 edited images for you to choose from, from a mini session you'll get approximately 10.  For a full session I ensure that I allow enough time for the small people (or even the grown ups!) to relax in front of the camera or to warm them up if necessary - as time is limited you may have to do this before we meet!  Due to the time constraints, I have to limit the number of people to each photoshoot to 5.

To keep things simple, I'm offering a number of packages for you to choose from:

Autumn Mini Session Menu This year's mini sessions will be taking place over the weekend of 12 and 13 October, if the weather isn't kind they will be rescheduled to the 19 & 20 October.  The location will be confirmed to you via email before the session.

To book one of the limited spaces or for more information, please contact me here

~Competition Time~ Capturing Memories: Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2013/8/-competition-time-capturing-memories-surrey-hampshire-berkshire Ok, it's competition time! I've been a little quiet of late, not in real life, here! Things have taken a change in direction for me, I'm now a full time self employed photographer and I can't put into words how excited that makes me feel. I was made redundant from 'the day job' at the end of July so I've had a (mostly!) lovely summer with my boys and now the start of school is looming, it's full steam ahead with photography.

To celebrate this and the fact that facebook are now allowing competitions to be run on business pages I'm going to give a complimentary photoshoot to one lucky winner.  The photoshoot can be for a newborn, family (maximum 5 people), couple, or even pet but it must be taken by the 30th November 2013.

To be in with a chance of winning, head over and like my facebook page and the post about the competition, leave a comment saying you've done so and I'll put your name in a hat on the 20th September.  Entries close at 8pm BST.  To gain an extra entry, leave a comment on one of my blog posts between now and the 20th September.  Facebook rules say that I can't count 'shares' as entries but of course, it would be lovely if you did!

I'm looking forward to cutting up lots of pieces of paper (and finding a hat!) not to mention meeting one of my lovely 'likers' to capture some wonderful memories for them.

Of course there are a few terms and conditions: Photoshoot to be taken by 30th November on an agreed date with myself, the photoshoot is to be taken within 40 miles of Farnborough, Hampshire. Newborn sessions normally take place before the baby is 3 weeks of age, please bear this in mind! There are a maximum of 2 entries per person, one from a comment on the facebook post, and another from commenting on any blog on my website. The photoshoot is for a maximum of 5 people. I think that it's!

~Newborn Photography~ Godalming, Surrey http://www.emwestwood.com/blog/2013/8/-newborn-photography-godalming-surrey I first met Laura through the world of twitter and then we met in real life when a mutual tweeter arranged a local clandestine cake club! When Laura asked me to take some photos of Noah I was delighted, I think you'll agree he's a beautiful boy (look at those lips!) and he was a superstar during the photo session which we did at their home in Godalming, Surrey.

Laura makes beautiful bridal jewellery which you can see here
